The Elesa+Ganter SAN LINE components are destined for medical and hospital equipment, rehabilitation and disability aids, machines in pharmaceutical sector, urban and public fittings. This unique series of components offer two different sanitised solutions:standard components in technopolymer with silver ion additives and stainless steel inserts, against bacteria and fungi; metal standard parts with a powder coating based on zinc molybdate against bacteria.According to WHO (World Health Organisation), antimicrobial resistance represents, today, one of the greatest threats to public health, due to the epidemiological and economic impact of the phenomenon. It occurs when microorganisms resist to antimicrobial drug activities, thus exposing humans to the risk of contracting infections that are difficult to control and eradicate.Despite the scrupulous carrying-out of traditional sanitisation procedures, especially in public places, hospitals and long-term care facilities, where it is easier to contract infections, 5-30% of microbial contamination can persist on surfaces or objects. It is therefore important to provide prevention to reduce the risk of contracting these infections in such environments. The unique SAN LINE group of products offer an effective solution.1. SAN-Antimicrobial technopolymer componentsThe special technopolymer with silver ion additives on an inorganic base (without active pharmaceutical ingredients, antibiotics or pesticides) prevents the proliferation of unhealthy organisms such as bacteria and fungi by penetrating the surface of the cells and attacking their DNA.The controlled release mechanism of the silver ions allows the inalterability of the antimicrobial characteristics prolonged over time, even after numerous washing cycles, to guarantee the antimicrobial characteristic of SAN-Antimicrobial Line.Laboratory tests have been conducted on technopolymer components and have shown that 98.9% of bacteria load is eliminated over the course of 24 hours (ISO 22196: 2011). All components of the technopolymer SAN-Antimicrobial Line are provided with a Statement of Compliance “Antimicrobial Properties of Materials".2. SAN-Antibacterial metal componentsPowder coatings with an additive based on zinc molybdate have a powerful antibacterial effect. The coating mimics the natural acidic protective sheath of human skin. Glands in the skin produce acids that lower the pH and form an acidic protective sheath for the body, rendering pathogens on the skin harmless. With zinc molybdate, this principle can be recreated by technical means: On the surface of the coating, oxide particles chemically react with moisture in the air to form an acid group, lowering the pH.The resulting oxonium ions (H3O+) destroy the cell walls of the bacteria via protolysis. This process ensures a constant reduction in microorganisms, preventing their growth and disrupting their ability to establish themselves on the surfaces.SAN-Antibacterial standard parts have been tested successfully according to ISO 22196:2011-08 “Measurement of antibacterial activity on plastics and other non-porous surfaces.”The principle of action demonstrably reduces the growth of bacteria within 24 hours so that contaminated surfaces ultimately have less 0.2% of the original number of microbes. Appropriately optimised parts are standard when strict hygiene standards apply. But they are also worthwhile in less sensitive areas as well. And this starts right from the bottom – at the levelling feet.Elesa+Ganter sets the standard with the standard parts of the Hygienic Design line, and this goes well beyond the hygiene-optimised design of production systems in the food sector. It can also make sense – and save money – to use these parts in other areas. This is because cleaning in general is simplified by the surface quality of the stainless steel elements, their special design with inclined surfaces and seals, and the resulting lack of dead spaces. The need for aggressive cleaning media is eliminated, and valuable time and energy are saved. It all began with the stainless steel leveling feet GN 20 with turned foot plate and firmly vulcanised bottom surface and spindle seals. Designed with mounting holes, these leveling feet satisfy the requirements of EHEDG, the 3-A Sanitary Standard and the DGUV testing principles. The alternative model GN 19 is designed for lower loads, covers the same range of applications (except for floor mounting) and also complies with the 3-A Sanitary Standard and the DGUV testing principles. The foot plate is deep-drawn from stainless steel AISI 316L sheet rather than machined, and it is lined on the bottom with blue silicone elastomer. As a result, this part also forms a tight seal against the floor. The deep-drawn sheet metal foot offers a cost advantage over the GN 20 leveling foot.New to the lineup are the two leveling feet GN 17 and GN 18. While they don’t meet Elesa+Ganter’s strict Hygienic Design requirements, they still utilize FDA-compliant materials and satisfy the requirements of EU 1935-2004.These two parts are used in applications where wet cleaning is not required, such as for the packaging of dry goods. The materials used have been selected accordingly: The GN 17 features stainless steel AISI 304 for the plate, for the spindle adjustable by six degrees and for the height-adjusting hex nut. Instead of the blue silicone elastomer, the floor seal consists of plasticizer-free, vulcanised black NBR rubber. The GN 18 also features stainless steel in AISI 316L, while both leveling feet offer optimized inclined angles, easy-to-clean surfaces and an absence of concave geometry. With these two leveling feet, Elesa+Ganter has extended its range of standard parts for applications in the food and pharmaceutical industries that are situated near production areas.More information on these Elesa+Ganter standard parts, and more, can be found by browsing our website by clicking here.
